Job hunting should never put you at risk. As JobStar.in has grown into a platform used by 3.2 crore+ job seekers, we've also seen scammers try to misuse trusted names — including ours — to trick people out of their money and personal details. This page exists to help you recognize the tricks fraudsters use, understand what JobStar.in does to keep listings genuine, and know exactly what to do if something feels off.

Common Types of Job Fraud

Fraudsters keep changing their tactics, but most scams fall into a few familiar patterns. Registration or fee fraud asks candidates to pay a "processing," "security," or "training" fee before an interview or offer. Fake work-from-home schemes promise unrealistic daily earnings for simple tasks like liking videos or data entry, then ask for an upfront deposit. Fake offer letters are sent on official-looking letterheads from email addresses that don't match any real company domain. And phishing links sent over SMS or WhatsApp try to steal your personal details or banking information by pretending to be a job application or verification form.

Red Flags To Watch For

You can catch most scams early by watching for a combination of these signs: any request for payment at any stage of hiring, a salary that sounds far higher than the role or your experience would normally justify, communication only through personal phone numbers or free email IDs instead of an official company domain, heavy pressure to "decide right now" or lose the opportunity, and an offer made without any real interview or assessment. One of these signs alone isn't always proof of fraud, but two or more together should make you pause and verify before you proceed.

Every company on JobStar.in goes through a verification step before its job listings go live, and we continue monitoring recruiter activity after that to catch suspicious patterns early. Your profile is visible only to companies you actually apply to, and we never sell or share your personal details beyond that. Accounts and listings that are found to be fraudulent are removed and the companies behind them are permanently blocked from posting again.

What To Do If You Suspect Fraud

If a job offer feels suspicious, don't make any payment and don't share your bank details, Aadhaar, PAN, or OTPs with a recruiter, no matter how official they sound. Save screenshots of the chat, email, or offer letter as evidence, then stop responding to that recruiter and report the listing or profile to our support team through the Help & Support section of JobStar.in. For scams involving money already lost or serious threats, you can also file a complaint with India's National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or call the national cybercrime helpline.
